  • The Jurassic Coast is one of the most popular destinations in Britain, drawing visitors from all over the world. Eype is a real jewel in the coastline with a beautiful, unspoilt beach with dramatic cliffs.

Eype is perfectly situated to explore both Dorset and the Jurassic Coast - Lyme Regis is just nine miles away and famous Durdle Door with its dramatic arch is around thirty.

  • the dorset nook, eype

“Meaning “steep hill”, Eype has been described as one of West Dorset’s most beautiful villages. It is easy to see why, as the village is full of pretty thatched cottages with country gardens, dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries.

Situated just West of Bridport on the coast, Eype has a beautifully attractive sand and gravel beach, backed by Golden Cap, the highest cliff on the south coast at 191m above sea level.”

The beach is just a third of a mile from the garden gate at The Dorset Nook. The coastal path is easily accessible and the walk to either West Bay (half a mile) or Seatown (two miles) has magnificent views.

Eype beach is stunning in all seasons and (nearly!) all weather conditions and you could spend days on end doing little else than wandering down with a picnic to sit and watch the waves.

5 Great Things to Do.

  • Pop to the market town of Bridport with its brilliant Alleyways antiques centre in the Art & Vintage quarter and independent shops and restaurants.

  • Visit Lyme Regis (walk or drive, depending on your energy levels!); there are loads of interesting places to eat and shop in the winding little streets and it has a lively, busy atmosphere.

  • Walk over the clifftops to the beaches and harbour at West Bay with its colourful ice cream parlours and food huts selling freshly-caught seafood. You’ll recognise the bright red cliffs if you were a fan of Broadchurch…

  • Work up an appetite hiking to the excellent Anchor at Seatown via the Golden Cap cliff. Golden Cap is known to be the highest point on the south coast of Britain and the views are stunning.

  • Take a day trip to Durdle Door and see Chesil beach and Weymouth along the way. Durdle Door is a photographer’s dream and Weymouth is a traditional seaside resort with rows of colourful Georgian houses along the front. After fish and chips on the beach, make your way to Portland Bill with its famous, very photogenic lighthouse!

5 Great Places to Eat.

  • Downhouse Farm is a mere hop and a skip across the fields behind the cottage and serves really good, wholesome comfort food. Lots of ingredients come straight from the farm and the portions of cake can be enormous. Just add clotted cream! See downhousefarm.org for opening months and times.

  • RISE at West Bay never fails to please with its menu of gourmet burgers, “drinking bites” and extensive breakfast options. It’s a reliable default but make sure you book - it gets very busy and for good reason! risecafebar.co.uk

  • The Anchor at Seatown is a pub serving really excellent food - including very fresh fish and seafood - in an idyllic setting. Right on the beach and beneath the highest point on the south coast, it’s only a two mile walk from The Dorset Nook so makes a brilliant place to hike out to for lunch. Their website is here.

  • Dorshi in Bridport is an East-Asian-inspired kitchen using locally sourced ingredients. It’s a must-visit - the dumplings are legendary and it’s a great place for sharing lots of smaller plates. dorshi.co.uk

  • No trip to The Dorset Nook is complete without breakfast at The Hive cafe, set right on the beach at Burton Bradstock. Waits can be long at busy times but there’s something unbeatable about eating a full breakfast whilst the waves crash just metres away. Also open for lunch and dinner and there’s a takeaway option available. hivebeachcafe.co.uk
